A cross-sectional study and inferential statistics, aims to assess the level of risk and suicidal depression of students 12 to 18 years, the autonomous region of Madeira, Portugal. The representative sample is composed of 1557 adolescents with an average age of 15.2. The selected measuring instruments were the Suicidal Risk scale of Stork and the Zung depression scale. Most young people does not show suicidal risk (67.7%), or depression (81.5%). However, 16.8% of young people should be the object of concern to suicide, as 10.1% reveal weak risk, 4.0% showed important suicidal risk and 2.7% suicidal risk is extremely important. Study the risk and suicidal depression is a challenge for future research in college students by comparing Portugal and Brazil, aiming at the development of strategic programs for the promotion of mental health of young people and implementing policies social and educational place to prevent these disorders.
