Objective: to present the main evidence found in the literature on the autonomy and decision-making of patients with CKD undergoing conservative treatment when choosing RRT. Method: systematic literature review, by searching the VHL, PubMed and Scielo, in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish, without limitation of publication time. Results: 32 studies were found. There is consensus in the literature about the importance of patient participation in decision making. Education and guidance for self-care with assessment of the patient's life goals and values "‹"‹is essential. Conclusion: the discussion is relevant and scarce; shared decision-making at the treatment facility should be prioritized.
