Abstract

Objective: To analyze the data on oral health and habits that contribute to the worsening of the oral and mental health of homeless residents in the city of Maringá-PR. Methods: This is a quantitative/exploratory research. The research was carried out through the analysis of electronic medical records of the homeless population (PSR) assisted in Maringá. The collected data were computed in an Excel spreadsheet for further statistical analysis. Results: We quantified and analyzed 761 electronic medical records. The predominant age group was 41.2 years (standard deviation of ±11.9), and the predominance was male (87.5%). The most prevalent oral problems were related to periodontics and surgery and with great need of prostheses. The data also showed high consumption of illicit drugs, alcohol and tobacco, resulting in a high prevalence of comorbidities and worsening of the mental health status of this population. It is expected that the results obtained in this survey can serve to support the municipality's public policy in relation to this population specifically, as well as to assess the effectiveness, expansion and improvement of services in the municipality of Maringá.
