Objective: To describe the challenges faced by nurses in hospital management in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive research, with a quantitative approach, exploring and/or using the investigative method. It was developed at Fundação Hospitalar São Sebastião, municipality of Três Corações, MG, through the application of an online questionnaire on the Google Forms platform to 16 professional nurses at the institution. The research was conducted through a sequence described in 07 steps and respected the precepts established by Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council and principles of anonymity, privacy and professional secrecy. Results and Discussion: There were countless challenges faced by nurses during the pandemic, one of them being the physical and emotional overload and strain. Seeking to improve their skills every day through training courses that were offered to them, the team in general managed to master the subject, thus being able to provide better assistance to the population. Final considerations: Amidst so much loss and suffering, nursing can be seen and valued more. When acting on the front lines, they were true heroes.
