Abstract

The aim of this study is to know the role of the professional nurse in prevention of chronic injuries in diabetic patients. This is an exploratory study of integrative literature review, qualitative approach. The databases chosen were Scientific Eletronic Library Online and Latin America and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, through the Virtual Health Library platform. The results are presented in the characterization of the disease and its complications, prevention and control of disease, emphasizing the role of the nurse as essential, which must be equipped with theoretical foundation, knowledge of the substances in the process of healing and guidance to the patient. To conclude, one can see that the effectiveness of therapy adopted will identify the importance of the role of the nurse as educator and how to guide the patient about how to properly take care of your feet, emphasizing the importance of such care, and showing the real reasons to comply to treatment.
