The aim is to evaluate the epidemiological profile of mortality of children in the State of Paraíba. It is a documentary descriptive study carried out with data from the mortality information system concerning the deaths of children from one to nine years and residents in Paraiba during the period from 2007 to 2016. Were evidenced 864 deaths, with predominant ages between five and nine years (100.0%), male (58.2%) and color/race (62.2%), being the result of external causes of morbidity and mortality (30.7%) and occurring with greater frequency in Brazil Joao Pessoa (21.5%). It is concluded that the State of Paraiba has been following the reduction of mortality in childhood presented by Brazil, but faces obstacles present worldwide, as social and economic exclusion, which are factors that hinder access to health, leaving children even more vulnerable.
