OBJECTIVE: To analyze the epidemiological, territorial, anthropometric, and therapeutic profile of users with type 1 diabetes mellitus using insulin analogues within the Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Services in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, between 2022 and 2025.
METHOD: Observational, cross-sectional, and retrospective study based on secondary data from the HÓRUS-Specialized system. Records of insulin analogue dispensing between 2022 and 2025 were analyzed. A descriptive analysis of demographic, territorial, anthropometric, and therapeutic variables was conducted, including the calculation of absolute and relative frequencies and measures of central tendency.
RESULTS: A continuous increase was observed in the number of patients and in the dispensing of insulin analogues throughout the study period, with greater expansion of long-acting insulin formulations. Most users were adults, with a stable sex distribution and concentration in the main urban centers of the state. In 2025, the basal–bolus therapeutic regimen predominated, while users receiving basal insulin alone presented higher mean age and a greater proportion of overweight and obesity.
CONCLUSION: The use of insulin analogues in the Paraíba public health system showed progressive growth and a utilization profile aligned with current clinical guidelines. These findings provide evidence to support regional pharmaceutical services planning and to improve care for individuals with type 1 diabetes mellitus within the public health system.
